Free Speech will set you free

At first I perceived the world of blogging as an outlet for nerds to complain about the contents of Batman’s utility belt. Although I still come across many blogs dedicated to trivial topics, I now see the beauty of a blog. No matter how uninteresting, mundane or ridiculous your blog topic may be, there is an audience that will read it. The allure of a blog lies within its realism; there are no ulterior motives from a corporate conglomerate, it is simply people expressing themselves with no impending ramifications. Since everyone has their own point of view you may have multiple blogs contradicting each other, that’s just human nature. Blogs can also be a lot more entertaining because they use offensive language and show risky visuals going places that other mediums may shy away from. Blogging is not about ratings or demographics it’s about free speech. Why watch the local news when your neighbor is doing the same thing, but dressed in drag riding a unicycle?

I have learned that no matter what your interests or expertise you can run a successful blog. There are enough people in the world that you are sure to peak some interest and gain a decent following. Nothing should stop the public from blogging just as nothing should stop you from wearing the clothes you want or eating the food you like. The future of music, movies, television and fashion lies within the blogosphere, acting as instant publicity and providing infinite knowledge on the topics. Everyday a new song comes out, a trend is set, a movie premiers or a television show bombs. It is impossible for the mass media to report on all of these topics in a way that justifies their artistic merit, that’s where blogs come in.

Our generation is very aware of the calculated actions of the mass media and blogging can be seen as a vehicle of truth. They have become place where whistle blowers and insiders will call it like they see it. Used as a secret weapon for the public to fraternize and network with others challenging the powers that be. As countless cultures and societies have been silenced in the past, forced to believe what they have been told and punished for thinking otherwise, the blogging world gives the people the power.

I love blogging; I am a firm believer in free speech and embracing all aspects of thought and opinion. I have over 20 blogs that I check daily, sure I come across some that I don’t like, but that’s the best part as soon as I leave that page I will most likely never see them again. Blogging matters to today society because it is a great way to evaluate our culture what people like or dislike, what are important issues, or even what’s new and cool. So please go out and tell the world about your favorite episode of Full House or expose a celebrity that has just bought drugs from you. Whatever you do make it real!
