Grand Beach Ad

Here is an print advertisement I put together for last year's travel assignment where some classmates and I went out to Grand Beach to take on a tangible client and promote them. While others in my group focused on specific activities and businesses like the casino or the night club I choose to highlight the most popular activity, which is doing nothing.

Bomber Contest Take 2

So as my work internship continues as do the shenanigans. Due to the brutal response to the current Winnipeg Blue Bomber contest, I was asked to step it up a notch and do a video. So I came up with this little diddy in the hopes that more people would submit their own videos. The clip features my roommates Jay and Ginelle who deliver impeccable performances. It's almost like they have years of experience putting up with my annoying antics.

MCG Biography

So I was asked at work to come up with a little bio about myself and how i got to where I am now, here's what I came up with...

I’ve been at MCG for three days now and I couldn’t be happier, but that’s not really a surprise. If you put a bunch of sweet hardworking people in a sweet hard wooded office the results are bound to be awesome. Currently I am working with the very hip and web savvy Tamara Bodi on public relations projects and operating various social media platforms. I am finding the experience to be incredibly valuable, primarily because it’s ridiculous to deny that the future of this industry lies online not to mention the ability to operate social media these days is pretty much the equivalent of speaking Latin in the early 1900’s.

If someone told me in high school that I would be pursuing a career in this industry I would have laughed in their face. See the thing is I grew up with parents whose divorce seemed to last for 15 years. I would constantly be dragged along to meetings with each of their lawyers and over time developed a fascination with the law. This would not only change my life but also my television habits, going from Ninja Turtles to Law & Order. I took myself way too seriously for the majority of my childhood under the impression that I would become a lawyer and fix my parents marriage. It wasn’t until university that reality set in and I realized I could no longer suppress the creative monster growing inside of me. I started acting, drawing, writing scripts and doing stand-up comedy. For a while things were going pretty great in school, getting the best of both worlds, studying criminology as well as taking creative writing and film studies classes.

When judgment day came I had to make a serious decision as to which direction my life was going. I applied to law school and Creative Communications at the same time and left it up to fate. Law school rejected me and Creative Communications accepted me. I immediately gravitated towards advertising, probably because I was already desensitized to emotion and thrived on manipulation.

Overall I really couldn’t be happier with how things turned out, my parents have since remarried and I feel my future is relatively promising but only time will tell. Well that’s my story and I look forward to meeting you all in the real world.

Getting Bombed

So I just started an internship at Mckim Cringan George which is a full-service marketing communications agency in Winnipeg and Regina, Canada. They specialize in advertising, branding, web design, graphic design, digital, communications and media placement. One of their biggest accounts is the Winnipeg Blue Bombers Football Club. Along with a plethora of traditional advertising the firm creates for them they also operate the Bombers social media outlets. So on my first day of working there I was faced with the task of coming up with a way to generate interest in the latest Facebook promotion which asks fans to submit pictures or video of themselves and what they are doing to prepare for the season opener against the Toronto Argonauts. Long story short I spent a majority of my dad at work creating a sign to act as an example for the masses who couldn't grasp the concept of the contest. Here's the finished product, fairly cheesy with my tongue firmly placed in my cheek. Beat my attempt and win 2 season tickets I dare you.

Kindle sells out, but with a catch.

http://www.nytimes.com/2011/04/12/technology/12amazon.html?_r=3&ref=technology

Here's a pretty neat article I came across on the The New York Times website because I'm educated like that yo. Basically it announces that Amazons kindle e-reader will go under a bit of a makeover by adding advertising and therefore dropping in price. The catch is people will be able to pick and choose which advertisements they see and Kindle guarantees that the actual reading experience will not be affected by the change. Ultimately this is so they don't get blown out of the water by other tablets out there that advertise like no other.

Beastie Battle From The Future

Very excited to see this 30 minute short directed by the beastie boys themselves. The film stars Seth Rogan, Elijah Wood, and Danny Mcbride as the boys in 1986, and Will Ferrel, Jack Black, and John C Reily play the future versions of the boys. It is also riddled with cameo's from Hollywood finest funny people Rashida Jones, Will Arnett, Adam Scott, Rainn Wilson, Ted Danson, Roman Coppola, Steve Buscemi, Amy Poehler, Jason Schwartzmann, Alicia Silverstone, Laura Dern, Kirsten Dunst, Chloe Sevigny, Maya Rudolph, David Cross, and Martin Starr.

The Patty Cakes

Here's a photo essay for my friends Andrew, Jay, Adam and Jesse. They have only ever played at the Academy but every show is packed with sweet people and a lot of fun. They play a lot of cover tunes and dance tracks so yah, did I say FUN!
